Building a Contest-Ready Photography Portfolio for Sandy Santra
Some projects come with a little extra pressure built in. When Fishkill, NY photographer Sandy Santra reached out, he needed a professional portfolio website. And he needed it fast, in time to submit it for entry into a photography contest.
The Challenge: Speed Without Sacrificing Quality
Sandy needed a portfolio site that could showcase both his photojournalism and fine arts photography, and he needed it built promptly to meet a contest submission deadline. On top of the time crunch, he had real concerns about image quality and site performance; for a photographer, a website that compresses images poorly or loads slowly can undercut the entire point of the portfolio.

The Process: A Foundation Build, Expanded for a Growing Portfolio
Sandy's site started with my Foundation package, built from scratch on Squarespace - fully optimized for desktop and mobile, with Google Analytics and Search Console connected. But because his portfolio included several distinct photography series, the Foundation package's standard 6-page structure wasn't quite enough room to do the work justice, so we expanded well beyond that, landing at more than 10 pages total. I also brought in some basic coding for further customization, and paid close attention to keeping image quality high while the site itself stayed fast to load; a balance that matters enormously for a photography portfolio.
Working against a contest deadline meant staying organized and communicative from day one, so Sandy always knew where things stood and had everything he needed to prepare his content on his end.
The Result
The finished site is exactly what Sandy needed: minimalistic, image-forward, and fast. Letting his photojournalism and fine arts work speak for themselves, without any design elements competing for attention.
